According to Wikipedia, “Glo meansk“the connection and juxtaposition of the multi-dimensional process of globalization and its local or regional effects and interrelationships.

The term GlobLocalization describes the process of increasing global interdependencies in many areas (economy, politics, culture, environment, communication), namely between individuals, societies, institutions and states.

So you could assume that the merging of global and local combines the best of two worlds. But it is not that simple.

globality

If we describe globality as open-mindedness, tolerance, and inclusion, it has and will bring many positive things to the world. If we combine the fact that we can reach and use anything and everyone around the world at any time, some of this is contrary to the efforts of climate policy.

locality

When we describe location as community, togetherness, for each other, it means a positive force. When we combine the fact that we act and think almost incestuously only in a small limited space, this leads to exclusion, hostility and conflicts.

Best of both worlds

So how could a sustainable, meaningful and worthwhile GlokLook like alization? Which elements combine to create the best of both worlds?

Global thinking is positive and effective when it comes to discovering new trends, researching innovation and creativity, and finding new employees. The enrichment of new perspectives, horizons of experience and solutions can be immense.

Local thinking, on the other hand, makes sense when we think about supply chains, networks, mutual support and the like. This is where new partnerships are established and the community is strengthened.

Local thinking should also guide us when it comes to development aid projects. The much-used motto: Helping people to help themselves! It's never been more accurate than it is today. The differences between countries and worlds are becoming ever greater, unfortunately also due to the pandemic, so that measures are less and less transferable from one world to the other world.

Relevance for companies

What does this mean for companies? One approach could be to use the achievements that the world opens up for us to be more successful in our own environment. When I search for ideas, partners and employees worldwide, I get open-minded and curious about new projects. With regard to all elements that are also available regionally or locally, you should then search more in your own environment. I think there are some who currently wish we had more local semiconductor production, just as we wanted locally produced hygiene products some time ago.

Perhaps during the Christmas season we can think about what we would like to do and change where and how. Perhaps we can send our overseas business partners a sign of our appreciation that they produce important products for our company? Online trading makes this possible. We can also hand over something from the region to our partners in the nearest town. All information about this can also be found online.
