In the constantly changing world of work, it is essential to rethink the use of existing competencies and to integrate them into the corporate strategy. From my point of view as a management consultant, this is about much more than just dealing with the shortage of personnel and skilled workers.
The move away from a rigid focus on formal financial statements towards a holistic view of people with their abilities and interests is moving our economy and society forward. Let's look at the integration of immigrants, for example. We often do not recognize your educational qualifications or only recognize them to a limited extent. Let's look at people who would like to leave their actual job and do something new. Because the doors are blocked for them, they remain in a “bread job” and dedicate their true commitment to their hobbies and interests.
In doing so, these people bring diverse experiences and fresh perspectives from which companies can benefit. More innovation and creativity, for example, are qualities that distinguish SMEs in this country. I once had a customer who was desperately looking for a project manager for innovative projects. At an awards ceremony for employees who have successfully saved costs for the company, I met a man who had received this prize every year since the very beginning. In conversation, I learned that he had been a production employee for 40 years. And because he knew the company inside and out, he had developed a keen eye for improvement. His colleagues liked him very much, so they welcomed his suggestions. As a result, he had already saved a fantastic amount of money for this company. What would he do in his free time? He makes sculptures out of scrap materials. — Do you hear the nightingale trapping? The company had even bought sculptures from him. Without realizing what untapped creativity potential they had in front of them.
I recommend that crafts, which suffer particularly from the shortage of skilled workers, use their personnel on a task-related basis. Not every job necessarily requires a championship title. So why not give career changers a chance who have acquired their skills elsewhere? The IT sector is already ahead here: More and more autodidacts are now being used here.
In order to make this change successful, I recommend that you also take a look from outside. As an external consultant, I have often been able to contribute ideas for better competence management to medium-sized companies and helped them to better prepare them for the future. Let's discover potential together, mine rough diamonds and forge talents!
